Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin was a French painter and sculptor whose works became some of the most iconic examples of Post-Impressionism. Born in Paris in 1848, Gauguin initially pursued a career in banking before turning to art in 1883. His early work was influenced by Impressionism, but he soon developed his own unique style, characterized by bold colors, simplified forms, and symbolic imagery. Gauguin's work often explored themes of primitivism, spirituality, and the human condition. He traveled extensively throughout his career, spending time in Tahiti and other Polynesian islands, where he was influenced by non-Western art and culture. Gauguin died in 1903, but his work continues to be celebrated for its originality and enduring impact on the art world.
