Wolfsburg is a city in Lower Saxony, Germany, located on the shores of the Mittelland Canal. It is the fifth largest city in Lower Saxony and the seat of the Volkswagen Group, one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers. Wolfsburg was founded in 1938 as a planned city for the workers of the Volkswagen factory. The city's name is derived from the Wolfsburg Castle, which was built in the 14th century. Wolfsburg is home to a number of cultural attractions, including the Volkswagen AutoMuseum, which houses a collection of historic Volkswagen vehicles, and the Phaeno Science Center, which offers interactive exhibits on science and technology. The city is also home to a number of parks and gardens, including the Allerpark, which is located on the banks of the Aller River.
