Bury is a historic market town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. The town is located on the River Irwell, 5.5 miles (9 km) northeast of Manchester. Bury has a population of 78,723 as of 2011. The town is known for its textiles, papermaking, and coal mining industries. Bury is also home to the Fusilier Museum, which tells the story of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The town has a number of historic buildings, including Bury Parish Church, which dates back to the 12th century. Bury is also home to the Bury Art Gallery and Museum, which has a collection of art and local history exhibits.
