Zarate is an industrial city located in the northern part of the Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. It is situated on the banks of the ParanĆ” de las Palmas River, opposite the city of Campana. Zarate is known for its shipyards, petrochemical plants, and steel mills. The city is also home to a number of historical and cultural attractions, including the Museo HistĆ³rico de ZĆ”rate and the Teatro Coliseo. The city's name comes from the Quechua word "sarati," which means "current of water." Zarate was founded in 1730 by the Spanish conquistador Juan de Garay. The city was an important port during the colonial period, and it continued to grow in importance after Argentina gained independence in 1816. Today, Zarate is a thriving industrial city with a population of over 100,000 people.
