This print depicts Francisco de Miranda, a Venezuelan revolutionary who fought for the independence of South America. Born in 1750, Miranda traveled extensively throughout Europe, studying military strategy and meeting with other revolutionary leaders. He returned to Venezuela in 1810 and played a key role in the country's declaration of independence. However, Miranda's revolutionary efforts were ultimately unsuccessful, and he was captured and executed by Spanish forces in 1816. Despite his tragic end, Miranda's legacy as a revolutionary leader and advocate for Latin American independence lives on.
